Taking back control of your data

I won’t be deleting my Facebook profile for now, but I’m glad I’m on Diaspora and Friendika to. These alternatives to Facebook aren’t there yet in terms of functionality, but it’s good to have distributed, open source alternatives. There are a lot of reasons to find Facebook evil, but the most important to me are that it is a big corporation that has all your info and can do with it as it pleases. They can delete your profile in a whim or decide to give your info to whatever government that thinks it could use it. The same can be said of Google, Twitter, etc. and that is why I’ve started migrating from those services as well. Hope to be able to live without them in the near future and only use Diaspora, Friendika, Identi.ca, StatusNet, self hosted mail and XMPP/Jabber, etc.
